The Balcony is Bangkok's fun pub.
In the famous gay soi off Silom the bar is inside with air-conditioning [and some eating tables] whilst most of the eating, and drinking, is done at the front terrace...on the balcony!
Yes, the clientele is predominently gay but an amazing number of non-gay also frequent The Balcony for a fun evening of very cheap but good food, cheap drinks and many laughs. Even tourist families are often seen eating, drinking and laughing at the antics of some of the more eccentric of the waiters [many of whom have a wife and children back home].
The English management run the best value eat and drink venue in Bangkok. Back in the 90's they opened the Telephone Bar, across from The Balcony before deciding to sell up and cross the soi!
Naturally there are a few English classics on their food menu. Both the Steak & Kidney and the Shepherd's Pies can be ordered with either green peas or baked beans.
The soups can be International or Thai [tom yum and tom kha gai]. Mains include a complete list of all the traditional Thai dishes [rice, noodles, stir fries and curries] as well as International extras such as a surprsingly good Indian Platter.
Steaks, Schnitzels, Burgers and Toasted Sandwiches are all there and a bar special of things 'in a basket'; shrimps, fish or chicken pieces all with chips...perfect finger food for a drinking night.
It is always a fun night at The Balcony!
