Maggies serves large meat dishes based on Austrian, German and Swiss cuisines. Almost all come with that Swiss special, Roesti.
Maggie herself has now retired but the place goes on as before, with many of the orginal staff.
Regulars all look first to the Specials of the Day. For many years the most popular special is their Pork Knuckle. Normally they sell out by mid evening. The flesh is amazing, so tender, as a result of the slow cooking oven method used. The skin is crisp and I always use lashings of their mild creamy dijon mustard.
Austrian Schnitzels are the every day favourite, chicken or veal, normal or Jager [covered with mushroom sauce], as are standards Cabbage Rolls, Swiss Bratwurst and thick tender slab of smoked pork [Kassler] which is pictured, and one of my regular dishes when dining at Maggies.
There is always a fish special and quite a few vegtarian dishes.
To finish it is always Apple Strudel, with ice cream and cream! Good wines at moderate prices [Australian, German and Austrian], European beers and some of the best, friendliest service in Sydney.
Maggies is always a good value feast!
