XL Lounge.....

Tapas & Sisha Pipes!

XL Lounge has surprised the locals by exhibiting strong staying power to make a previously oft failed site work! Across the football field from Monkey Forest Road, in Ubud, is not the greatest of positions but this building [once a better than average Indian restaurant that never promoted itself enough to stay alive] has always been attractive, with its silken draped rooms, the sheesha pipes looking so natural in this setting, At front tables and benches with views across the field. It is more than just a drinking lounge as their Tapas [Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, Spanish Tortilla and Meatballs, Mexican Quesadillas and French Escargot in garlic butter] and Mediterranean Cuisine [Spanish Seafood Paella, Moroccan Lamb Ragout and Super XL Kebabs from the outdoor BBQ] offer something completely different for Ubud. Not only are they open till 3.00 a.m. every evening/morning, but the kitchen keeps the same hours. No wonder it has quickly become a haunt for local restaurateurs after their own places have closed for the night! - June 2, 2010
